Empty Cellar Records | About
Haphazardly organized in 2006, Empty Cellar Records is a collectively-run vinyl record label that embraces
an experimental blend of American music. Our goal is to release work from various bands and artists who embrace both studio and non-studio recording settings -
with a strong focus on home and field recordings - with the help of The American Opry & Garden Chamber Studios.
Our first release is a split 45 by Joseph Childress & the White White Quilt, recorded in an abandoned water tower in northern California.
Empty Cellar Records interprets folk music as more than just the “traditional” or 1920s-1930s "old-time" music. We also characterize other
various styles as "folk music," for instance American punk, experimental, the various "(fill in the blank)cores," psychedelia, jazz etc. — many of
which were produced within the same populist-folk context as the pre-war recordings. This wider encompassing definition of "traditional" or
folk music will reflect future releases.
We strive to produce the highest-quality affordable releases we can. Our vinyl always comes with a
free high-quality digital download of the record - rights permitting. It is also our goal to manufacture and distribute our records using the most environmentally sound
methods available (e.g.; contracting local services, using recycled products, and purchasing carbon offsets whenever possible). A percentage of our revenue will go towards
the Endless Nest conservation & art community
